This is Day 3 of Natalie Sisson’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge and it was a real challenge for me. Natalie made it sound so simple in her instruction video: “Just describe your perfect day.” I started to write a seriously longform post only to discover I wasn't writing about my perfect day at all. I was writing about my current most ideal day. So I started over.
Morning
I wake up naturally at 6AM and cuddle up with my wife for a few more minutes before I get out of bed. I drink a glass of water, do some yoga flex breathing exercises, then shower and get dressed. My family is still fast asleep, allowing me to prepare a wonderful breakfast and savor a few sips of my morning coffee before they wake up and come and join me for breakfast. Over breakfast, we talk about our plans for the day, and we laugh as today is going to be a perfect day for all of us.
After breakfast, I retreat to my study to work all morning on creating a course or keynote speech on the topic that currently interests me most. I love the fact that I can spend my mornings doing this, and feel blessed. Fully absorbed in this work, I don't notice the passage of time at all until it is time to have some lunch.
Afternoon
At lunchtime, I rejoin my family and maybe some friends. We discuss what we would like to do together in the afternoon. We decide to go for a walk, and then sit outside in the shade to play a table-top game together. One of those strategy games that we almost never have time for. Today we do, and as the game progresses we enjoy deep conversation and humorous anecdotes.
After the game, I answer some messages that have come in from students. I love doing this myself, even though I have a great team. They know this, and always leave me some messages to answer.
Then, it is almost time for an aperitif. A gin and tonic with plum bitters would do nicely on this warm and sunny day. But first, I put in a brutal strength workout. As I sip form my drink after that workout, I remember the time when I thought I would never be as fit as I am today, and I smile.
Evening
Because it is such a warm and sunny day, we decide to have some barbecue. We all create a dish, and totally geek out over their creation as we savor them. After dinner, the rest of the evening is spent in conversation before it is time to wind down. As I lay in bed, and put down the novel I'm reading before I fall asleep, I realize today was a perfect day.
This blog post is in response to Natalie’s 10 Day Freedom Plan Blog Challenge Day 3.
